Piccolo's Story

THE STORY OF PICCOLO'S BOOKSTORE

A young man as unique as his name, born in Compton, raised in Long Beach with a passion to read, diagnosed with dyslexia discovered his mission: promote literacy and provide affordable education to all who have desire

Piccolo began to sell used books for $1. A bookstore created for those seeking knowledge and spiritual healing. To fulfill the desires of the customers who came from far and wide, Piccolo opened four $1 book stores. But more needed to be done. Piccolo created The Gift Of Knowledge. Piccolo personally gives away 1,000 to 60,000 books every week.

Free books are given directly to

  • Children
  • Teachers
  • Schools
  • Orphanages
  • Churches
  • Medical Centers and
  • Libraries

Piccolo’s helps organizations raise money with book drives. In the last two years Piccolo donated more than 1.5 million books. Books have been donated throughout:

  • Mexico
  • Haiti
  • Jamaica

  • and more

Piccolo is recognized by the community for his tireless dedication to educating the world.

But Piccolo’s is more than books, with a burning passion to give more, Piccolo teamed with the Alumni of Inner City Cultural Center, the first multicultural arts institute in the country.

Also Piccolo and IC2 presents free and low cost community theater offering acting classes, seminars, open mic spoken word, modeling, networking, storytelling and more with the purpose to spread the message of knowledge, love and truth to the youth. We encourage and motivate the youth to open their minds, expand their horizons, share the joys and pains of life and make plans for a better tomorrow. Teamed with you, every book you purchase allows Piccolo to donate a book to a child.

LETTERS FROM OUR SUPPORTERS

Wallenstein said:  Please know that Piccolo's bookstore provides a valuable, incredible resource to our community--not only in providing one of the rare second-hand bookstores in Los Angeles (let alone BOOKSTORES in general), but also because of the generosity of the owners of this bookstore.

It may astonish you to know that they are nearly single-handedly providing many of our low income schools and their hard working teachers with books for the classroom.

In fact, just the other day, my husband and I were in the bookstore, awaiting a movie, and we overheard two teachers pulling books, lamenting the budget woes that caused them to buy books for their classroom with their own money. About three minutes later, it became apparent to us that we weren't the only ones to overhear the conversation, as a man quietly made his way to the counter, pointed out the teachers, and gave forty dollars to the cashier, saying "this is to go to those two teachers to help them buy books for their students". We then added more money, as we, too, lament the budget cuts that have so badly affected our state.

In the end, a well-educated population who loves to read become city planners, mayors, teachers, scientists, you name it.

Denton Said:  The book store provides one of the greatest treasures on the west side- books, thousands of them, for extremely reasonable prices. My girlfriend, myself, and even my mother shop there all the time, obtaining wonderful new knowledge and amazing new stories that are simply not available elsewhere.

Removing this store would be an unwise decision, as it would eliminate accessible knowledge and a location that promotes reading to both children, young adults, and those more of my age - which is needed in a time of computers, iPads, and iPhones.

There is simply not a price you can put on a bookstore that promotes reading, re-selling books, and even gives new authors an opportunity to sell their work.

I can't tell you how many times my girlfriend and I stop at piccolos either before or after dinner or a movie - it is a unique and wonderful store that needs to stay. It provides a unique mix that provides something of interest for both the youthful and the professional; for the young, the not so young, and those who wish to be young at heart.

One can never replace the knowledge, stories, and entertainment that a simple book can provide.

Please tell some friends. Your support helps children WORLDWIDE.

Thank you,

Tuesday Conner

Book Drives & Fund Raisers

To help alleviate the budget problems your school may be experiencing A Gift of Knowledge, a fundraising division of Piccolo’s Books, known for their quality, but inexpensive, pre-owned books, will now travel to your school, providing an opportunity to support your teachers, classrooms and special event needs.

Piccolo’s Books understands how difficult it is to stretch a dollar to cover the funds necessary to give our children the education they deserve. Our Prime interest is promoting literacy and connecting the children; our future, to the books they need for a complete education.

Let us help shine the light on their path to knowledge! Host a Gift Of Knowledge Book Sale at your school. And earn $.25 on every book sold. We will deliver and set up 5000 quality pre-owned books, which we will then sell at $1 each (tax exclusive) on a cash basis only. (This allows you to collect your cash immediately at the close of your event!)

But wait, There’s More! If you sell 1250 books at your event, We will gladly donate 5000 soft cover kids books to your school. If you sell 2000+ books at your school we will donate 6000 soft and hard cover books to your school. All we ask from you is a letter saying “Thank you” for our donation.
